Put experience to work for you

When Accidents Happen...
Here are some points to consider if you are involved in an accident

Just in case...
It is always good to be prepared by having the following in your vehicle in case of accident

  • Carry a set of cones, warning triangles, or emergency flares in your trunk to help alert traffic.
  • It also helps to have a pen and a card with any relevant medical information for you and your family.

At the scene of an accident...

  • First things first - Take a deep breath! It is important to stay calm, and make sure all the occupants of the car also remain calm, and safe.
  • Check for any injuries to yourself, or other occupants; call an ambulance if you are in any doubt.
  • If accident is minor, and there are no injuries, move the cars invloved to a safe place, out of the way of traffic.
  • Turn on your vehicle's hazard lights and use cones, warning triangles or flares for safety.
  • We strongly recommend calling the police, even if the accident is minor
  • Contact your insurance company immediately to report the accident and start your claim.

Most importantly...

  • Do not sign any document unless it's for the police or your insurance agent.
  • Do Make immediate notes about the accident, including specific damages to all vehicles involved, witness information, etc.
  • If the name on an auto registration is different than the driver, make sure that you make a note of the down the relationship between the driver and the insured person.
  • Always be polite, but don't tell anyone the accident was your fault, even if you think it was
  • State only the facts, and limit your discussion of the accident to the police and your insurance agent.
  • If possible, don't leave the accident scene before the police and other drivers do.
